Doubles Addition Worksheet: Facts from 1 + 1 to 12 + 12

This doubles addition worksheet contains twelve equal-addend facts, beginning with 1 + 1 and ending with 12 + 12. The facts appear in order so a learner can focus on what it means to combine two groups of the same size.

Make two equal groups

Choose an item such as 4 + 4 and show four marks in each of two groups. Count the combined total and compare it with the written equation. Explain that a double uses the same quantity twice; the worksheet is not asking for two different numbers that happen to share the same total.

Notice the sequence of totals

As the addends increase by one in each group, the combined total increases by two. A learner may use that pattern to check an answer, but still ask what the two equal groups represent. Moving straight down the page without reading the equation can conceal a misunderstanding.

Choose an appropriate amount of practice

Work on a few rows, then pause to explain one example. You can cover the remaining facts if the full page is distracting. The later rows include addends above ten, so they can be left for another session if the learner is concentrating on smaller quantities.

Check with the separate answer sheet

The key supplies every total in the same order. Compare answers after the learner has had a chance to reason about them. For a mistaken total, draw or build the two equal groups again and recount. Keep a note of the fact that needs more practice rather than treating the whole sheet as a single result.

To extend a known fact, discuss a nearby sum orally, such as using 5 + 5 to think about 5 + 6. That extension is separate from the printed doubles practice, which keeps both addends equal throughout.

Answer key in text

  1. 1 + 1 = 2
  2. 2 + 2 = 4
  3. 3 + 3 = 6
  4. 4 + 4 = 8
  5. 5 + 5 = 10
  6. 6 + 6 = 12
  7. 7 + 7 = 14
  8. 8 + 8 = 16
  9. 9 + 9 = 18
  10. 10 + 10 = 20
  11. 11 + 11 = 22
  12. 12 + 12 = 24
