Equivalent Fractions Worksheet with Missing Numerators

This equivalent fractions worksheet gives twelve pairs of fractions with one missing numerator in each pair. The second denominator is supplied. Find the multiplier connecting the denominators, then apply that same multiplier to the numerator.

Keep the value unchanged

For 1/2 = ___/8, the denominator has been multiplied by four, so the numerator must also be multiplied by four. The completed fraction is 4/8. Multiplying both parts by the same nonzero number changes the written form while preserving the fraction’s value.

Work from the denominator relationship

Read the two denominators before calculating. Ask what whole-number multiplier takes the first to the second. Write that multiplier on a separate working line if needed, then use it for the numerator. The printed set is chosen so this whole-number scaling method works for every item.

Avoid adding the same amount to both parts

Adding a number to the numerator and denominator generally changes the value. If that strategy appears, compare the fractions using a visual model or a known equivalent pair. The important relationship here is multiplicative, not a matching addition on the top and bottom.

Check with the completed equations

The key fills the missing numerators in the same order as the practice sheet. Read a completed pair aloud and explain the multiplier. A learner can also simplify the second fraction to check that it matches the first.

Equivalent fractions answer key with 12 solutions

The questions use proper positive fractions and a missing numerator, with no mixed numbers or negative values. If the scaling step is still unfamiliar, choose a few rows and model them with fraction strips before completing the remaining items. The worksheet provides practice in equivalence rather than every possible fraction operation.
