Cause and Effect Organizer Printable with Evidence Notes

Connect an event with a supported result

This cause and effect organizer printable has four spacious rows. Each row separates a cause or event, an effect or result and the evidence that connects them. It can be used with a story, a historical account or a classroom observation when the goal is to explain a relationship rather than merely list events in order.

Record four cause-and-effect pairs and explain the evidence connecting each pair.

Avoid confusing sequence with causation

Two things happening one after another does not automatically establish that the first caused the second. Use the evidence column to cite a passage, observation or explanation that supports the connection. In a fictional story, a character action may have an explicit consequence; in an observation, the relationship may remain uncertain. Label uncertainty rather than forcing a definitive claim.

Read each row as a complete explanation

Try combining a row into a sentence using because or as a result. Check whether the sentence says more than the available evidence supports. Learners can compare proposed explanations and revise the diagram after discussion. The four-row layout keeps the task focused, while an additional sheet can hold more examples. There is no universal answer key for this open-ended organizer.
