Research Notes Template Printable with Source and Questions

Keep the research question visible

This research notes template printable helps connect notes to a specific question and source. Six sections separate the question, source details, paraphrased notes, an exact quotation, the source contribution and follow-up questions. Use one page per source when you want to avoid mixing information from several places.

Separate source details, useful notes, exact quotations and follow-up questions on a research planning page.

Separate your words from quoted words

Record enough source information to find the material again, including a page or section when available. Put notes written in your own words in the notes area. Reserve the quotation area for a short exact passage and mark its location. Copying text into the notes area without identifying it can make later writing confusing, so keep the distinction clear from the start.

Record limits as well as useful findings

Use the explanation area to state how the source helps answer the question. In the final section, note missing information, conflicting accounts or another source to check. The sheet is not a complete citation-style guide and does not verify a source automatically. Follow the citation and source-evaluation requirements of your assignment when turning these working notes into a finished piece.

Download and print

Use Download image beneath each printable to save its original PNG. For a PDF, select US Letter or A4 and choose Download PDF; the website creates the file from the image in your browser. Check paper size and print preview before printing. These are flat pages for handwriting or craft use, not fillable forms. Print for personal and classroom use; when sharing online, link to this article rather than redistributing or reselling the files.
