What this printable helps you do
Record what birds do during a short observation session. Observe for a short defined period. A date, viewpoint and duration help make a later visit comparable. Keep a description of what you saw separate from the explanation you are considering. The page is useful even when you cannot identify the object or organism; a careful sketch and a clear question are better records than an unsupported name.

What is on the page
The page uses a spacious four-column log with room for repeated entries and a follow-up area below. Keep one observation or item on each row so information stays connected across the columns. The four headings are Time, Behavior seen, Location clue, Question. Add a subject identifier and date at the top so the page can be understood when you return to it.
How to use it
Observe from a distance and record actions such as feeding, perching or calling without disturbing the animal. Start with one example rather than filling the whole page at once. Use ordinary language you will understand later and add a reference where a note depends on another source.
A practical example
Three visits to the same branch are a behavior record; guessing that a bird is hungry is an interpretation. This illustrates how to begin; the downloadable page is blank so you can use your own subject, materials and observations.
Review before you reuse it
Use the same observation period when comparing sessions and avoid treating a single visit as a pattern. Read the finished page from the perspective of someone who was not present. Clarify an abbreviation, mark an unanswered question and identify the next small action if one is needed.
