Decluttering Checklist Printable: Four Simple Decisions

This decluttering checklist printable helps you work through one small space using four decisions: Keep Here, Move Elsewhere, Give Away or Donate, and Recycle or Dispose Appropriately. A follow-up line at the bottom turns the sorting session into a clear next action.

Choose a space you can name

Write a specific area and session date at the top. A drawer, shelf, or tray gives the page a clearer purpose than an entire house. You can use the four boxes to record items, groups of similar objects, or the decisions you still need to act on. The sheet does not require you to list every object.

Separate keeping from relocating

Keep Here means the item has a useful place in the area you are working on. Move Elsewhere is for an item you intend to keep but store in another location. Write that destination beside the item so the decision does not end with an unexplained pile in the next room.

Give outgoing items a next step

For Give Away or Donate, add the intended recipient or collection plan if you know it. Check what the receiving organization actually accepts before taking items there. The final category is a reminder to use the appropriate local disposal route; different materials may need different handling, so the worksheet does not give a universal disposal rule.

Use the follow-up line deliberately

Write one concrete action and the person who will do it: “take the labeled book bag to the collection point” is easier to follow than “finish sorting.” If an item needs someone else’s decision, note that rather than making an assumption. You can leave it unresolved and revisit it later.

Review the space after the session

Look at what remains and whether its location makes sense. An item can be useful without belonging in the space you first found it. Print another page for a different area instead of adding several unrelated rooms to the same four boxes. The template offers a decision structure, not a deadline, scoring system, or requirement to discard a particular number of belongings.
