Telling Time Worksheet: Hour and Half-Hour Clocks

This telling time worksheet contains eight analog clocks showing an exact hour or a half hour. Write the matching time on the line below each clock. A separate answer image adds the digital times without changing the clocks.

Identify the two hands

The longer hand shows minutes and the shorter, thicker hand shows hours. When the minute hand points to twelve, the clock shows an exact hour. When it points to six, thirty minutes have passed after the hour. Begin by finding the minute hand before deciding which hour to record.

Notice the hour hand at half past

At a half hour, the hour hand is between two hour numbers. Use the hour it has passed, not the one it is approaching. A clock showing 3:30 has its hour hand halfway from three toward four; that does not make it 4:30.

Write the time consistently

Use a colon between hours and minutes, and write two minute digits. For an exact hour, the minutes are 00; for a half hour, they are 30. The worksheet does not provide a morning or evening context, so it does not ask for AM or PM.

Use the key after reading the hands

Compare each written time with the corresponding clock on the answer sheet. If an answer differs by one hour at half past, check how the learner interpreted the shorter hand. If the minutes are wrong, return to the longer hand and the twelve or six position.

Read the clocks across each row, then move down to the next row. The text answers follow that numbering. Cover unused clocks for a shorter activity, or ask the learner to explain one example before moving to the next.
