School Word Search Printable with Forward-Only Words

This school word search printable uses twelve familiar school-related words in an original fifteen-by-fifteen grid. The allowed directions are right, down, and diagonally down-right. No words run backward or upward.

Read the school words

Search for PENCIL, BOOK, DESK, RULER, PAPER, ERASER, CLASS, LESSON, READ, WRITE, LUNCH, and BACKPACK. The bank includes objects, activities, and parts of a school day, which gives several ways to discuss the vocabulary after finding it.

Find a start, then verify the whole spelling

Scan for the first letter of the chosen word and check the next letter in each allowed direction. Keep moving in a straight line once a direction is chosen. A matching first pair is only a candidate; compare every remaining letter before marking the word.

Use the page in a short activity

Choose a few words for an initial round, then return to the rest later. Two people can take turns naming a target word or checking a proposed path. The sheet does not set a grade level, speed target, or reading assessment score.

Extend the vocabulary task

After the search, sort the words into groups such as things you can carry and actions you can do. More than one grouping can be reasonable if the learner explains it. Use a separate sheet for sentences or pictures so the grid remains easy to read.

Check with the answer resources

The highlighted key marks the complete paths, and the coordinate list below identifies their endpoints. Every listed word has one verified occurrence under the permitted direction rules. Shared letters between words are intentional possibilities, not a reason to change a correctly found path.
