Study a small set of words in context
This vocabulary study sheet printable provides four word-study sections. Each section asks for the word, its source context, a meaning, a useful clue or word part and an original sentence. The layout gives each word enough attention to move beyond copying a definition into a narrow list.

Check the meaning that fits the passage
Start with the sentence or situation where the word appeared. Use context to propose a meaning, then check an appropriate dictionary or teacher-provided reference. A word may have several meanings, so choose the one that fits this use. The clue field can hold a helpful prefix, root, related word or contextual detail; not every word needs to be split into parts.
Write a sentence that shows understanding
Use the word in a new sentence that makes its intended meaning clear. A sentence such as “I saw the word” does not demonstrate much about the meaning. Review spelling and usage against your source, and revise the sentence if it suggests a different sense. The blank page can be reused with another set of four words and has no predetermined answer key.
