Cornell Notes Paper Printable with Cue and Summary Areas

Separate notes from review prompts

This Cornell notes paper printable divides the writing area into a narrow cue column, a wide notes column and a summary section at the bottom. A title and date field identifies the material. The layout can be used during reading, a lesson or a presentation when you want to revisit the notes afterward.

Use a narrow cue column, a wide notes column and a bottom summary area on original printable note paper.

Add cues after collecting the main notes

Use the wide column for important points, examples and brief explanations. Later, add questions or keywords in the cue column that help you recall those points. You can cover the notes column and use the cues to attempt a short explanation from memory, then uncover the notes to check accuracy. Keep the cues connected to the actual content rather than adding unrelated questions.

Write a short synthesis

Use the summary area to explain the main learning in your own words. It does not need to repeat every line from the notes column. If the source contains a claim or quotation you will use later, record its reference as well. This paper provides a structure, but the quality and accuracy of the notes still depend on careful reading and review.
