Addition Number Pyramids Worksheet with Four Puzzles

This addition number pyramids worksheet contains four puzzles. Each pyramid begins with four supplied numbers along the base. Every block above is the sum of the two blocks directly beneath it, giving six blanks to complete in each puzzle.

Work upward one row at a time

Start with two neighboring base blocks and add them to fill the block centered above that pair. Continue across the row, then use those new values to build the next row. A block may contribute to two different sums, so do not cross out or remove it after using it once.

Keep the pairs aligned

The offset shape shows which two blocks belong together. Point to the pair before adding if the arrangement is unfamiliar. Do not add an entire row to fill a single next-row block; only the two values directly beneath that block are used.

Notice zero without skipping a block

Some base rows include zero. It still occupies a position in the pyramid and participates in the neighboring sums. Adding zero leaves the other value unchanged, but the block must remain part of the structure.

Check each level

The answer image completes all four pyramids. If a top value differs, work back through the rows to find the first changed sum rather than correcting only the final block. One early addition error can affect several blocks above it.

All supplied numbers are nonnegative whole numbers. The activity practices addition through a repeated structure; it is not a missing-base puzzle that requires working backward. Use one pyramid for a short session or compare how different base values produce different upper rows.
