Explore an alternating over-under pattern
This paper weaving template printable has a rectangular mat guide with five internal cut lines and six strip outlines beneath it. The internal cuts stop before the mat border so the paper remains connected. The activity demonstrates a simple alternating weave using flat paper pieces.

Prepare the mat carefully
Decorate the mat and strips if desired, then cut around the outside outlines. An adult can help fold the mat briefly and start the internal cuts safely; cut only the marked internal lines and keep the outside border intact. Unfold the mat and flatten it before weaving. Use tools appropriate for the maker and do not extend the slots beyond their endpoints.
Alternate the starting position
Pass the first strip over one section and under the next. Start the following strip in the opposite pattern so the crossings alternate. Slide the strips gently into place without forcing or tearing them. Secure loose ends with a small amount of suitable adhesive if needed. The page is a practice craft, and the finished weave will vary with cutting accuracy, paper thickness and printer scaling.
