About this printable
Practice combining like terms with eight focused questions and a separate printable answer key. Each exercise has space for a written method, and the answers also appear as readable text below. Use the practice page first, then compare methods as well as final answers. The paired images stay together in this article so the solution can be found without searching for another post.

How to use it
Terms with the same variable part can be combined by adding their coefficients. For example, 3x + 2 + 4x + 5 becomes 7x + 7. Variable terms and constant terms stay in separate groups.
Check and adapt
Check the simplified expression by substituting a value for x into both forms. These examples contain x terms and constants only, with no powers or products of variables. Keep the constant separate instead of treating x as a label that can be dropped.
