About this printable
Practice distributive property expansion with eight focused questions and a separate printable answer key. Each exercise has space for a written method, and the answers also appear as readable text below. Use the practice page first, then compare methods as well as final answers. The paired images stay together in this article so the solution can be found without searching for another post.

How to use it
Multiply the term outside parentheses by every term inside. For example, 3(x + 4) becomes 3x + 12. Leaving the constant unchanged would produce an expression with a different value. Write the two products before combining anything.
Check and adapt
Choose a small value for x and evaluate both the original and expanded forms to check equivalence. This set uses positive integer factors and additions inside parentheses. It practices expansion rather than solving an equation for an unknown.
