About this printable
Practice two step equations with eight focused questions and a separate printable answer key. Each exercise has space for a written method, and the answers also appear as readable text below. Use the practice page first, then compare methods as well as final answers. The paired images stay together in this article so the solution can be found without searching for another post.

How to use it
Undo the added or subtracted term before undoing multiplication. For example, 3x + 4 = 19 becomes 3x = 15 and then x = 5. Apply each operation to both sides so the equality remains true.
Check and adapt
Substitute your answer into the original equation and evaluate the full expression. All questions have one integer solution and a positive coefficient of x. Write both balancing steps rather than skipping straight to a guess, even when the numbers look familiar.

- 2x + 5 = 1: x = -2.
- 3x + 6 = 3: x = -1.
- 4x + 7 = 7: x = 0.
- 5x + 8 = 13: x = 1.
- 2x + 9 = 13: x = 2.
- 3x + 10 = 19: x = 3.
- 4x + 11 = 27: x = 4.
- 5x + 12 = 37: x = 5.
