Coordinate Axis Reflection Worksheet

About this printable

Practice coordinate axis reflection with eight focused questions and a separate printable answer key. Each exercise has space for a written method, and the answers also appear as readable text below. Use the practice page first, then compare methods as well as final answers. The paired images stay together in this article so the solution can be found without searching for another post.

How to use it

Across the x-axis, keep the x-coordinate and change the sign of the y-coordinate. Across the y-axis, keep y and change the sign of x. For example, reflecting (2, 3) across the x-axis gives (2, -3).

Check and adapt

Plot the original and reflected point if you want a visual check. Both should be the same perpendicular distance from the mirror axis. These questions reflect across coordinate axes only; reflection across another line requires a different analysis.

Answers in text

  1. (-3, 5) across x-axis: (-3, -5).
  2. (-2, 4) across y-axis: (2, 4).
  3. (-1, 3) across x-axis: (-1, -3).
  4. (0, 2) across y-axis: (0, 2).
  5. (1, 1) across x-axis: (1, -1).
  6. (2, 0) across y-axis: (-2, 0).
  7. (3, -1) across x-axis: (3, 1).
