About this printable
Practice one step equations with eight focused exercises and a separate answer page. The questions are arranged in two columns with working space in each box. The article also includes the answers as readable text, so you can check a response without opening the solution image. Use the practice page first and keep the key aside until the learner has tried a method.

How to use it
Use the inverse operation to isolate the unknown while keeping both sides equal. For example, x + 8 = 15 gives x = 7 after subtracting 8 from both sides. A written balancing step helps distinguish solving an equation from guessing a missing number.
Check and adapt
Substitute your result into the original equation and evaluate both sides. Each exercise here has one integer solution and uses a single addition, subtraction, multiplication or division step. Do not change the operation printed in the original equation when checking.
